Parent Expectations
Much of the source of recent conflicts with coaches has been the result of parent expectations regarding the play of their child.
This can be the result of playing time in the field, playing specific positions, batting order, running bases, or basic instruction.
Everyone's desire is to have our children develop their skills, learn the sport they are participating in, and certainly to enjoy the experience of the team and individual achievement.
Additionally, each child brings a unique set of skills and ability to the team. there are also expectations from the coaches concerning practice time, listening to instruction and following direction. Skill levels also vary and will influence how a coach will utilize a player. Each and every player is provided opportunities to participate and enhance their skills. Participation in a sport requires a level of commitment to be in attendance and to work on developing their skills, whether on the practice field, at home or during games.
In the course of the season there is a balance that arises from time to time on being competitive versus just playing the game. The underlying theme is typically about winning. This consideration often facilitates comments from parents about playing time or how a child was utilized during a game. It's not an easy situation to effectively manage or resolve without hurt feelings one way or the other. As such, the following questions are being included in this year's survey to receive feedback on expectations:
How important is winning?
*
Very Important

In reference to playing time, positions, batting order, etc. Should there be a difference in how league games are approached versus tournaments?
*

Should attendance at practice or not showing up for games be a consideration for playing time?
*
Yes
No
What is the expected player commitment for teams that qualify for post season play (state or national tournaments)?
*
Post season play should be considered part of player commitment
Post season play should not be considered part of player commitment
How should competitiveness be considered when forming teams?
*
Players should be divided with all teams being as equal in ability and competitiveness as possible
Players should be grouped by ability which would result in one team being more competitive than the others
